Update: Pigmy Goat Shelter


Tom found an awesome deal on a dog kennel that looks to have been run over by a forklift so needless to say it needed some re-squaring - lol! We backed up the truck and used the hitch and a cinder block as a vice to re-square then I tweaked each wall section into a single plane with blocks and body weight. His tenant assembled it in the back near the original box I built and I grabbed a few hundred feet of fencing and some posts from the bottom of the property for me & Tom to set the perimeter run with. He also had a stripped door panel I was able to throw some fence on to use as a gate. The rest is history... Moist Spots 2: the Aftermath

As I awoke to a beautiful sunrise I noted a dark gray wall looming in the west and approaching quickly. We had a clipper moving through and it reversed the advance of the sun for several hours. I decided to survey as much of the property as I could climb my way into in silence today allowing the sights and sounds of nature to speak for themselves. I started walking at 3:18 in the video. Moist Spots: an in-depth view

Did someone request a video about flooding? A fact finding mission from topography maps to IRL walk-through before, during, & after the rains. The entire property is a basin that drains from the road towards the creek but the creek has been banked up to prevent flooding towards the road creating a bowl effect in the center of the place. Towards the last quarter of the video It started another downpour that dropped roughly 1.5-2 inches per hour with a tornado spotted a half mile away and the threat of hail and gusting winds. The sky was a strange yellow so some parts of the walk were a bit interesting as the camera tried to adjust the color for "normal" conditions - but - WOW! how this place flooded!!! The entire center of the property drained from the perimeter down towards the center and the focal point of that collection is roughly 400 feet from my front door... I walked the trails to show the aftermath this morning to show just how deep it gets after the higher ...

DIY Tree Trunk Table & a Light

The previous day I extended my Ryobi sawzall to cut down a tree that was overtaking my house but was left with a stump. What to do? A table for guests and the ability to have a relaxing seat outside during the cool temps seems to fit the bill nicely. There was plenty of scrap pressure treated lumber up in the yurt opening from junk collected off of Craig's List from the prior year. Thankfully I'd already disassembled the majority of it to clear the open space and segregated it by type and size. Starting off with the existing trunk I got a mid trunk from the tree that was shaved down around ten feet away to stand in as the second support for the table section. From there I used two pieces of left-over 1x2 from trimming the inside of my tinyhouse to string together the remainder of the table surface.
